An interesting thing was done by Pujon Hill, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), by holding coffee and forest education. The agenda, which was held in early July, seeks to convey new knowledge regarding coffee and provide alternative economic sources for residents. This event also brought speakers from local Pujon farmers and live performances by baristas who process coffee into exciting drinks.
One member of the UMM team, Tatag Mutaqin, S.Hut., M.Sc., explained that the UMM White Campus team was not only made up of lecturers but also students. The thematic Student Community Service (PMM) program incorporates the two elements. Tatag, his nickname, said that coffee cultivation has not become the main livelihood of the Pujon community. However, the potential is quite good and can be developed further.
"It's a shame that the potential of this coffee is not maximized. Therefore, we want to invite residents to know more about the ins and outs of coffee. Starting from its cultivation to marketing. It is also an effort to help village farmers introduce coffee from agriculture located in Bendosari Village, Pujon District, Malang Regency," he added.
Furthermore, Tatag said that the height of the land in the Pujon sub-district is perfect and adequate for coffee farming. Uniquely, Kopi Pujon was also a coffee representative from Indonesia at the Athens Coffee Festival in Greece last year. The UMM team finally wanted to carry out different coaching with these various advantages. Especially in order to encourage the coffee industry in Pujon.
The fun thing is that live music performed by Morning Station always accompanies the series of events. Even with a coffee-making demonstration carried out by the baristas who were present. "In addition to providing new knowledge to the community, we also hope this activity can help them find alternative economic sources, especially amid unfavorable conditions due to the PMK outbreak. Hopefully, this educational effort will be useful and provide knowledge for those who attend and become an alternative income," he concluded. (cdr/wil)
