Concrete steps were taken by the Electrical Engineering Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), to initiate a center of excellence for Solar Power Generation (PLTS). Through workshops and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Electrical Engineering Study Program cooperates with some companies, namely PT Alfan Mechatronics Innovation, PT. Etrama Nusa Energi and PT. Zaada Bana Engineering last Saturday (12/2).

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Ilyas Masudin, P.hD. said curriculum development must now refer to industry needs. Mainly in numbers to balance education needs in the industrial era 4.0. "Therefore, it is necessary to expand cooperation with other stakeholders so that the curriculum can be adjusted. That way, students and graduates can be equipped with various useful abilities and skills to become independent individuals," said Ilyas.

On the other hand, the CEO of PT. Zaada Bana Engineering Ivan Ahsanul Insan said that basically, the Electrical Engineering Study Program of the UMM curriculum was sufficient. However, some additions in entrepreneurship, sales engineering, and soft skill development need to be added. These three things are considered capable of bridging project management, time scheduling, WBS, project schedule, and proposal making. Especially considering the current market demand.

"We certainly hope that this step will produce new talents in the energy sector, especially solar power plants," said Ivan.

The Technical Director of PT also conveyed the same thing. Etrama Nusa Energi Yongki Adi Pratama. He said that education should be able to produce a ready-made workforce. So, this is a very logical step to increase economic effectiveness and entrepreneurship in one place.

In addition, electricity management and occupational health and safety (K3) are very relevant to be replaced by interconnection systems. Given that this field is crucial in the development of PLTS. He also proposed several main points in the implementation of the internship later. Some are product knowledge, brand components or leading equipment, planning, and actualizing installations. The hope is that it will foster a college atmosphere with a work atmosphere.

"I think the implementation of internships is also very effective if carried out on an ongoing basis. It can last for four to six months. Especially considering that human resources can be a crucial business asset in the future," he concluded. (cdr/*/wil)
