Laboratory of Physics

Physics science is the basic of exact science which is based on experiment so that the relation between theory and practice is very tight.

The purposes of physics practice are:

  1. As the illustration of principles in theory,
  2. Forming scientific attitudes,
  3. As the developing skills, in order to the practitioners are able and skilled to operate the tools, carry out experiments, and measure the physical quantities,
  4. To get practice experiences of physics as the basic in conducting research based on the scientific background.

The functions of Laboratory of Physics are as follows:

  1. Place for conducting practices on physics,
  2. Place for conducting research both students and lecturers,
  3. As a Public service, that is for the public outside of UMM either for education, quality control test, or etc.

The equipments at Laboratory of Physics UMM are oriented to the practice service and for basic research. However, it still needs to be improve and developed. The equipments (tools and materials) cover: relative humidity, thermocopel, specific heat of solids, thermal of melting ice, Ohm law, Wheatstone bridge, electrolysis, ossiloscope, heat by electric current, resonant sound, thin lenses, artificial lighting, laser light diffraction, refractometer, the acceleration of gravity, modulus of rigidity, liquid viscosity, spring stiffness constant, surface tension, friction (one set for each), etc. Concerning that the equipments are so many, it is not possible to mention them all.

The use of laboratory service is still limited on the students research and lecturers research.
