Biology Laboratory

Biology Laboratory has certain goals and functions, it is an educational laboratory for conducting research that apply and develop some theories and concepts.

Biology laboratory used to conduct practicum for 5 departments, they are:

a.   PMIPA Department of Biology Studies Program, for 17 lab courses:

General Microbiology, Applied Microbiology I (food and industrial field), Applied Microbiology II (environmental field) General Biology, Environmental Sciences, Tissue Culture, Micro Engineering, Parasitology, Histology, Basic Nutritional Sciences, Animal Physiology, Plant Physiology, Food Supervision, Animals Invertebrates System, Plant Anatomy, Human Anatomy and Physiology.

b. Faculty of Agriculture

¨ Agronomy and Agribusiness Department, for 3 lab courses:

1) General Biology Agriculture

2) General Botany, and

3) Plant Physiology

¨ THP (Agricultural Technology) Department, for 2 lab courses:

1) General Biology Agriculture

2) General Microbiology

c. Nursing Department on Diploma Program, for 3 lab courses:

1). Parasitology

2). Microbiology, and

3). Human Anatomy and Physiology

d. Biology Laboratory also serves high school lab work around University of Muhammadiyah Malang

Biology Laboratory used as a research laboratory for students, faculty, and high school students around campus. In addition to serving the lab work, biology laboratory in each semester serve several types of research relating to:

a. A variety of substances test; blood sugar levels, vitamin, protein, fat, carbohydrates, caffeine, and chlorophyll test,

b. Microbiology quality test, quality of fresh water resources, waste water, and other tests.

c. Identification of microbes, plants low levels, ferns, and others.

d. Making preparat Micro technique and plants include: preparat section penampang, preparat wholemount, preparat maserasi squash, fresh preparat by supervital coloration.

 

ð Some Equipment that are owned by Biology Laboratory;

Spectrophotometer, microtome, rotay evaporator, photographs preparat, coat tissue, colony counter, hand tally counters, sactodensimeter, stethoscope, spinomsnometer, haemositometer, soil tester, urinometer, anemometer, microscopy (light: monocular and binocular, binoculars electricity), plan meter, microkjedal , digital pH meter, altimeter, oxygen meters, desiccators, lux meters, digital temsimeter, refract meter, COD bottle, slide projector, centrifuges, incubators, autoclave, water bath, oven, refrigerator, thermometers (body, space, environment and land), auto click blood lancet, a variety of glass tools, various props, dissetiingset, and others.

For the short term, Biology Laboratories provide laboratory services for three faculties in each semester, the Guidance and Counseling, Faculty of Agriculture and the Academy of Nursing, and also the high school around Malang which do not have a laboratory. As for medium term, the laboratory develops educational media production and training unit of the learning process. For the longer term, the lab is expected to be part of UMM biotechnological production unit.
