INTRODUCTION
Long-term strategy of higher education was listed in the Higher Education Long Term Strategy (HELTS) from 2003 to 2010 in formulating the three basic policies of higher education development.
They are: the nation's competitiveness, autonomy and decentralization and health organizations.
Universities and colleges are expected to be a moral strength in building the high integrity of character and culture, fostering a democratic society and be a source of knowledge along with the formation of human resources that are responsive to community needs.
This process will succeed if the college is healthy, independent, and able to interact well to get the support and active participation from government, industry and also society in the use of science, technology, and art.
The University of Muhammadiyah Malang at the age of forty-five keeps continuing to improve itself to actualize a healthy and independent university as well as its achievement to be top '20 Best University in Indonesia', including the top 50 Promising Indonesian Universities, also the 10 Best Universities in East Java (A Rank Campus Award) by Kopertis Region VII East Java, 2008.
UMM is also well known as the white campus, it has three campus locations supported with adequate facilities and infrastructure for the development of science, technology, and art.
Several laboratories are provided to support student in every program of study, a library which can be accessed on-line, hot-spot areas for intranet and internet, sports facilities, arts and religious formation centers in the form of mosques (Ad-Da'wah on Campus II and AR. Fachruddin on Campus III), which are functioning as a place of worship and places of study in order to deepen Islamic and society insight.
Some facilities have been built among them: the University Inn, Unit of Publishing House and Books Store, Unit of Service Station, Unit of Dome UMM, Rusunawa, Micro Hydro, Medical Center and the unit to serve students’ need.
As an institution of higher education, UMM provides a conducive academic atmosphere for its academic community, in which the whole learning process takes place, either in classrooms or even throughout campus, with supported facilities.
In this atmosphere the academic community characterized by promoting courage in their responsibility, freedom of thinking which is based on solid reasoning and openness in receiving the necessary information.
Whole actions are based on faith and devotion in carrying out the mandate of Tridarma universities which includes: education and teaching, research, and community service.
