Communication Studies Laboratories

Objectives and function:

Communication Laboratory Functions as follows;

a.         As a support unit of Tri Dhrama of Higher Education activities which is hold by all academic community, especially at the Department Communication Studies Faculty of Social and Political Science.

b.         As a mean of student training and practicum in order to dig out their skill and competence in the field of Communication Studies Department.

c. As a mean of appreciation of technology and art development as media of communication.

 

 

Objectives and Functions:

Communication Laboratory functions are as follows:

a. As a support unit for the activities of Tri Dharma Higher Education which was held by the academic community, particularly the Department of Communication FISIP UMM.

b. As a means of training or practicum students to acquire skills (skills) for the field or program of study Department of Communication.

c. As a means of appreciation of developments in technology and the arts as a medium of communication.

Laboratory communication purposes are as follows:

a. Developing student creativity and activity in appreciating and applying the communication technology development in the form of learning shop.

b. Providing the provision to students in the field of communication skills in mastering software and hardware, from the design to post production.

c. Creating the atmosphere of teaching learning that can link and math between the academic and society need in the job field along with science and technology developments that occur.

d. Forming a mental attitude of professionalism in the field of Communication Science.

Practical Material:

Practicum is one teaching learning form which is organized by utilizing laboratory facility. The implementation can be conducted outside or even inside of the laboratory. Thus, practicum can is a part of certain subjects.

In Communication Department, there are some subjects that utilize laboratory in the lecture, such as;

a. Basics Photography (all majors)

b. Graphics Computer (all majors)

c. PR Personality (PR major)

d. Event Management (PR major)

e. Internal & External PR (PR major)

f. Writing & Media PR (PR major)

g. Creative PR Practice (PR major)

h. Print Journalism (Journalism & Media Studies major)

i. On Air Journalism (Journalism & Media Studies major)

j. Online Journalism (Journalism & Media Studies major)

k. News Production (Journalism & Media Studies major)

l. Production of Journalistic Work Practice (Journalism & Media Studies major)

m. Shooting Techniques & Analog Editing (AV major)

n. Digital Editing (AV major)

o. Art of Sound System (AV major)

p. Broadcast Management (AV major)

q. AV Communication Production Practice (AV major)

 

Utilization of Laboratory Services:

a.     Instrument Borrowing

Beside practicum, the laboratory serves an instrument and laboratory room borrowing. The cost and procedure are regulated separately.   

b.    Documentation Services

Documentation service is provide to whoever wants to utilize communication laboratory to document some occasions or events including; photo, visual, and audio visual (shooting, editing, dubbing) documentation.

c.     Training/Workshop

Training/workshop will be implemented on regular or incidental way by announcing through publication. Workshop is organized for the public both university student and whoever are interested to join are welcome. Trainings/workshops offered are;

§ News Program Production

d. Developmental Program

Based on the above objectives, the competencies developed in the Laboratory of Communication, are:

1)    
Audio Broadcasting includes the development of skills; setting up a radio broadcast, radio broadcast management, being a programmer, announcer, broadcast producer, audio mixing, event director, script writer, and television broadcasting operator.

2)    
Television broadcasting includes the skill of; setting up television broadcasting, management of television broadcasting, programmer, announcer, program producer, event director, script writer, television broadcasting operator, graphic and image animator, shooting and editing technique.

3)   Advertising includes the skill of; setting up an advertising production, managing (advertising company, jenglemen, creative copy writing, creative art direction (art director, illustrator, graphic designer, artist production) both for mass media, non mass media, and outdoor publication. It will be sufficient if also supported by mastering the skill on point (a) and (b).

4)     Journalistic field. The skills being develop are: lay outing and radio and television journalism. For print journalism, it is joining BESTARI Newspaper.

5)     While for public relation, the skill being develop are: setting up public relation company along with its management, PR consultant, and pers conference.
