 A.     Vision, Missions, and Objectives

Pusat Studi Islam dan Filsafat (PSIF) is one of study centers at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang which concerns on Islamic issues, Kemuhammadiyahan, and pholosophy.  The study center is the form of development form the previous institute, Pusat Studi Islam dan Kemuhammadiyahan (PSIK).  On October 1, 2000 there was a transformation into Pusat Studi Islam dan Filsafat (PSIF). 

In the internal scope of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, PSIF has a strategic position.  UMM's vision  is to develop Islamic and scientific discourses. The actualization of the vision requires a good synergy among institutes at the UMM. In the framework of UMM's vision, PSIF takes a position as an institute which organizes studies, researches, publications, and trainings in the field of Islamic and philosophic thoughts. 

By realizing the strategic position mentioned above, the roles that would be taken by PSIF are based on the following visions:  (a)  becoming one of the academic institutes at UMM which has excellence in studies, researches, publications, and trainings in the field of Islamic and philosophic thoughts; (b) becoming one of the academic institutes at UMM which is open to the tradition of thought from classic, modern, and contemporary literature, developed by Muslims and non-Muslims.

With the formulation of the vision, PSIF assumes major vision to organize a series of studies, researches, publications, and trainings. The activities are planned, directed, and conducted deeply in the field of Islamic and philosophic thoughts with the attitudes of openness to all traditions of thought.

The objectives of all the series of PSIF activities are (a) the formation of tradition of thoughts and Islamic and philosophic discourses in order to search for wisdoms (b) the birth of product of thoughts and reseaches in the field of Islamic, philosophic, and social thoughts in the form of scientific publications which can be appreciated by all parties.

 

B.  Scope of Activity

Scope of PSIF activities cover (a) studies on some interesting topics in the field of Islamic and philosophic thoughts,  (b) researchs,  (c) publications, and (d) education/trainings.

 

C.  Relationship of PSIF and Other Institutes at UMM

Institutionally, PSIF is under the Research Institute of UMM. In organizing activities (studies, researches, and publications) PSIF cooperates with other institutes at UMM especially in the Islamic and Kemuhammadiyahan core such as Islamic Faculty (FAI), Islamic Master Program (MAg), AIK and MKDU Teaching Division, Mosque Prosperity Agency, Reasoning and Islam Division, Cultural Intitute, and study centers.

 

D.  Program of PSIF

Studies: Conducting both programmed and incidental researches on an issue in scientific society and public talks.

Research: Conductiong reseaches in the field of Islamic, philosophic, and social thoughts both independently and in cooperation with outside parties.

Publication: Organizing periodic journal publication and book on Islamic and philosophic fields.

Education: Offering training package to develop methodology aspect in conductiong studies and researches on Islamic and philosophic fields.
