Chemical Laboratory
Chemical Laboratory which includes Basic Chemical Laboratory, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry is an important means for education, research, service (services) and quality testing or quality control. With those four functions, it is obvious that the existence of the Laboratory of Chemistry at the University is really vital, particularly for universities which have exact sciences faculty. This is to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education that includes education, research, and community service.
Chemistry is a science based on experiments, so the relationship of theory and practice are very closely related.
Chemistry lab objectives include:
a. As an illustration of the principles theory,
b. As tool to form scientific attitude (scientific attitude),
c. As the development of skills, students are aimed to be able to; operate the equipment, handle chemical substance, teaching experiments, and conduct chemical measurements,
d. To gain practical experience of chemistry practice as a basis to do further research in accordance with the background of their expertise.
So, other than as a venue for student to do practicum, chemistry laboratory also serves as a venue for research, both research students (Final) as well as research lecturer, and public service facilities; for the general public outside the university itself or even for education and for the purposes of quality and other tests.

The equipment of chemical laboratory is still in the service-oriented practicum for basic research. It needs some improvements and developments fit with future demand. Furthermore, the facilities and infrastructures can be seen directly to the exact place, at chemical laboratory.
The utilization of laboratory service still limited on; students research either in general or even in the need of final project, b) lecturer research, c) community service, and for certain test that can be conducted at Chemical Laboratory, such as for water quality test and etc.
Chemical Laboratory is used by four faculties, they are: Faculty of Agriculture and Fishery, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and Faculty of Engineering so that its development rather difficult due to their own different business. Besides, there is no Chemistry Department at UMM give another difficulty.
In general, for the short term this laboratory:
a. Can meet the practical needs of the four Faculties above with a wider variety of experiments and have high compatibility with the theory in the lecture and can meet the demands of professional scholars for each departments/faculties, and
b. Can meet the needs of a broader basic research both for research students and research lecturer.
For the long term program, the laboratory is expected to meet the needs of advanced research in order to be useful as analysis service for both internal campus and public. In addition, it also can be used for quality control of industrial products.
